so i’m back in atlanta now. i just finished uploading pics from yesterday, which was quite eventful to say the least…
Zumthor’s Kunsthaus Bregenz. Simply awesome. Seeing it up close and personal is quite an experience, especially to see how the facade responds to various degrees of sunlight and how the interior receives that light. And even better, the current exhibit was Zumthor’s work over the past 20 years. Brilliant!
Then Lindau, another old town on the Bodensee. There’s a gorgeous harbor with a lighthouse and a fantastic view of the Alps.
Then Augsburg and the Augsburger Puppenkiste. It’s the theater’s 60th year in operation and opening night for a new political variety show, in essence a series of shorts, interludes, and longer numbers- all hilarious, some with just acting and some with german dialogue, but regardless of whether I understood everything, the entire show was a wonder to watch.
And then dinner at Christian’s, one of the puppeteers and a friend of Wolli’s. He has an awesome flat in Augsburg and also a great deal of interest in art and architecture. I had a good time sifting through some of his books and talking about some local art hanging on his walls while people prepared dinner: salad with a citrus balsamic walnut dressing and FONDUE!!! yum.
Gosh, and then the afterparty, karaoke and FIREVERKS! Woohoo!! man, i had a lot to drink. and then i got up with wolli to sing Extreme’s More Than Words. I know, super cheesy, but when you’re drunk, it’s ridiculously fun and easy to sing, lol.
Le sigh, and then bedtime and getting up at like 6am to head to the airport. Sad face!!!
What a great vacation. And it wouldn’t have been possible without Pam and Wolli and Felix being such great hosts, showing me Paris and the Bodensee area. And such constrasts as well between Paris’s cosmopolitan big city feel and the small town experience of the villages surrounding the Bodensee.
Well, time to head to bed and resume life and work tomorrow!
